We aim at WCAG 2.1 Level AA. These are the decisions that follow from it, written down so they do not get undone by accident.

Text

Body text is 17px, not 16px. Line length is capped near 68 characters. Nothing important is carried by colour alone.

Contrast

Every colour pairing in the design system is annotated in the source with its measured contrast ratio. Body text on the page background measures 13.71:1. Secondary text measures 6.56:1. The accent used for links measures 6.42:1. Nothing under 4.5:1 is used at body size.

Keyboard

Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard and shows a visible focus ring. A skip link is the first focusable element on the page. The mobile menu opens and closes from the keyboard and closes on Escape, returning focus to the button that opened it.

Motion

There is very little animation, and what exists is disabled entirely when the operating system reports a preference for reduced motion.

Images

The contour arcs and survey markers behind headings are drawn in CSS and are hidden from screen readers, because they carry no information.
